Wisletics Blog
We've realized that many times you could be added to a new role, such as a player or a coach, and you may not realize it for awhile. Until you log into your account, there's no way for you to know you've been added, and this is causing you to miss out on the features that linking to roles provides.
That's why today we are introducing Role Alerts. Whenever a new role is created, if an email address is provided we will use it to send you a quick message, letting you know you have a new role. This will help you link your account quicker, and gain access to the...
Drilling down to a more specific page on Wisletics has always been easy. From a school page, it is easy to select the program, and then the season, and finally the team you are looking for. From the team page, you can even navigate further to the coach and player pages. Navigating the other direction, however, has been difficult. Most users relied on their browser's back button. This worked okay, but could require a lot of extra clicks and unnecessary page loads.
Today we are introducing Breadcrumbs! They provide a simple, intuitive interface for you to find...
Navigation of Wisletics on a mobile device has always been limited. While the basics were there, it has been almost impossible to navigate to the pages you need as an administrator, coach, and player. During the last couple months, we have made a large push to make the site display nicely on all devices, and today we are pushing out improved mobile navigation!
With navigation, we are always trying to get you the page you want as quickly as possible. With tablets and desktops this is relatively easy, because we have a large amount of screen space to work...
Useful features and relevant content are great, unless you're unable to find them. Having an intuitive navigation and a powerful search are how you find what you're looking for. Navigation updates are still in the works, but today we've pushed out some huge changes to our site search. These improvements come on two fronts.
First, we updated the data we index behind the scenes. This includes indexing more data, and better data. This will deliver more relevant results to you.
Second, we improved the display of the search results. It is better formatted, making it easier to...
While a majority of our traffic still comes from the desktop, we believe it is important to deliver a great user experience on mobile and tablet devices as well. That's why this weekend we dedicated a significant amount of time to optimizing Wisletics for those users.
Previously, the sizing of elements was not appropriate for certain screen sizes, we were overly verbose with buttons when a simple icon would suffice (and save space), and none of our tables were responsive. The tables were perhaps one of the ugliest things to look at on smaller devices, and even made...
We've been hard at work over the last couple months bringing you a fresh, more modern design. While the layout will be generally the same, the design has a overall 'flatter' look to it. This is due to upgrading our underlying user interface (UI) framework from Bootstrap 2 to Bootstrap 4.
Bootstrap 4 is built using the powerful CSS preprocessor, SASS, which allows us much greater customization over our builds. We also can take more of a 'mobile first' approach to our site. If you're using the site on devices smaller than a laptop, you should notice significant...
Today we have added the 'Action Toolbar'. You will find it fixed to the bottom left of your screen. It includes a Search, a link to your shopping cart, and for logged in users, quick access to the people and teams you follow. It is one small step towards a much larger design overhaul.
We hope you like it!
I am more than excited to be able to announce this upgrade today. After many months of hard work, the entire site has been updated to use the Laravel Framework. Wisletics was initially built using the popular CodeIgniter Framework and, while it served it's purpose, the lack of active development within CodeIgniter led us to find another solution. Laravel has proven more than capable, and enables us to speed up development, and add new features quicker. In fact, while upgrading to Laravel, many new features previously...
Welcome! This is the first of what I hope to be many blog entries for Wisletics. I decided to add the blog section in order to have a way to communicate to our users about all the great new features we are adding to our website. Of course you can also follow us on Twitter @Wisletics. It seems like I have a new idea everyday, and sometimes I have to rein myself in to stay focused, but it also gets me excited about all the possibilities Wisletics has! These past couple weeks I have cleaned up the look of some areas, and optimized...
