The Warriors travelled 2 hours north this weekend to participate in the DC Everest Invitational. The mood was light on the ride up as the girls were excited to be done with school for the week, and to get some games in against good competition.

The Warriors faced a true test in their first match of the weekend against the DC Everest Evergreens. The first half was a back and forth battle with a slight edge to the Evergreens. The turf field was proving a little difficult for the Warriors to adjust to with their normal possession style soccer, and they spent a lot of the half playing defense.

DC Everest had some speedy forwards, and caught the Warriors off guard to start the game with some deep balls played to the corners. They got a couple of very good shots off, but Sophomore keeper Katya Statz was able to keep a clean sheet in the first half. Senior Erin Freeman also stepped up to fill in for an injured Alex Ziegler, and played very well in back.

The Warriors made a keeper change to Junior Olivia Mecham in the second half.

The Warriors came out firing on all cylinders in the second half, after a rousing halftime speech from Head Coach Jesus Torres. The ball rarely left the Evergreen's defensive half, as the Warriors maintained significant possession. Senior Maddie Shaw started off the shots with a 40 yard rocket that rattled the upper ninety. The Warriors then continued to get opportunity after opportunity, due in part to the high pressure defense that sent back any ball that tried to make it into the Warrior's half.

The Evergreens were able to get one breakaway opportunity, but keeper Olivia Mecham came out to meet the ball, and made an excellent sliding save.

Emily Mouille got her second hat trick of the season with all three of the Warriors goals in the 68th, 69th, and 71st minute. The second came from a beautiful cross to the 18 from Megan Ejzak, which was driven solidly back into the net.

The Warriors improve to 2-0-0. They play Saturday morning in their second game of the DC Everest Invitational against Pulaski.
